If it's anything like Karnak, they built up the ground level to drag the stones up, then cleared away the excess dirt. The site is clearly more level than is usual for that part (or any part) of Britain, which already indicates large scale earth moving.

They used earthen ramps and A frames made from tall trees. They would lift the stone up a foot or so into the air then put stones underneath to keep it at that level. They repeated this loads of times then when the stone was level they used the A frame to swing it onto the uprights. They had already carved out little holes and bumps to slot together when they were fitted together.

Well, I actually visited stonehenge in 2003, and took the whole tour, and basically the guide explained it as though how the egyptians made the pyramids. They carved them and dragged them for many miles.

It is crazy to think that two entirely different cultures so very far apart could have such a similar idea!

Let me guess? They levitated them?
There have been a lot of experimental archaeologists working on this one and there are plenty of ways they may have done it but no one knows for sure.

It was rebuilt in the 19th century. The way it was put together then was pure guess work. Not many people know that. :o)
