My county sponsors special waste disposal/recycling days twice a year at a Park-n-Ride lot. They will accept them as scrap metal (and appliances too).
If your county doesn't, contact your local solid waste utility for information. They may accept scrap metals at a "transfer station" for recycling.

I would check into recycling..I don't think you can refill the 1# cyl.

I have made REAL SURE that they are empty. Cut off the top
( I use a hacksaw) and used them to hold small tools etc. on the work bench. one a way to recycle.

A required nuisance of our society. If you can find a way to use these useless objects you could have the world at your door, you know, the "Better mouse trap" Good luck.

refill them. some places who refill propane takes like such will buy them also so they can rent them out. or just throw it in the trash

I toss them in the garbage. You can't refill them, so they're pretty useless.
