My county sponsors special waste disposal/recycling days twice a year at a Park-n-Ride lot. They will accept them as scrap metal (and appliances too).
If your county doesn't, contact your local solid waste utility for information. They may accept scrap metals at a "transfer station" for recycling.

I would check into recycling..I don't think you can refill the 1# cyl.
I have made REAL SURE that they are empty. Cut off the top
( I use a hacksaw) and used them to hold small tools etc. on the work bench. one a way to recycle.
If you are not sure about cutting off the top,, don't...

A required nuisance of our society. If you can find a way to use these useless objects you could have the world at your door, you know, the "Better mouse trap" Good luck.

I toss them in the garbage. You can't refill them, so they're pretty useless.
