The security updates go back to Aug 2005. Is it safe to remove all but the most recent ones of the above? And what is the best and simplest way to do this as I am not computor literate (but am learning!) and dont want to screw things up.

No, leave all of the hot fix's, you will have to find some cleaning elsewhere....

Some of these hotfix's are incrimentals (eg. 1 is installed in addition to a previous 'fix') and removing any previous may harm later fix's installed.

On top of that, any you delete, microsoft update will just detect they're missing and re-install them.

Unfortunately, you'll have to find the memory else where.

Do NOT delete the hotfix in short.

You really do need to keep the patches / fixes there.

Run Ccleaner to see what you can clear out, backup the stuff you need but haven't used in a while. Uninstall programs you don't use.

Be aware that XP's got a bad habit of collecting clutter, and ends up melting down in about a year or two of use. Some people have to reinstall it every 6 months!

if you get rid of the updates then the computer will just download them again so keep them and save time
