Good Morning, Mike -
"Sorry, morning rant, I am just peeved at all the bad advice that gets thrown around here just for the sake of some spotty oick getting 2 more points."
You're right..... there's some really bad advice thrown around in all of Y!A, not just Computers & Internet. But isn't it ultimately the responsibility of the asker to weed out the good from the bad? To check other websites, talk with friends or computer geeks at work or school, BEFORE implementing any of the suggestions found at Y!A?
To put it another way, if someone asks a medical or health related question on Y!A, wouldn't you expect them to do a little more research before "drinking two parts of X and one part of Y" to cure what ails them?
And with all of your superior computer knowledge, what about YOUR moral obligation to set the record straight whenever you see all those "ill informed answers"? If you stay silent, aren't you contributing to the ignorance? Just some food for thought.

Just know Windows Vista in the end is, just like previous versions of windows, just an operating system. I've worked on it for about 3 months now (beta version), and can tell you that however it looks and feels great, it has obvious Pro's and Con's.
Like the previous guy stated, it's still very new, which means you're going to struggle to find any worth while support on it, it also uses loads of resources, which means unless you have a descend spec pc, I wouldn't even consider it. It seems to be very stable, and the 3d icons adds that extra nice look, must be honest, it looks great, lot like Linux though (which is free!). Another good point is that (if using a properly spec PC) it's a lot faster than WinXP on the same PC.
As I said, we've been using it now for 3 months, and would probably use it indefinitely from now on, however, we wont encourage (or even attempt) selling it for the next year or so.

Vista went on sale here in New Zealand midnight last night and the rest of the world after that so you should be able to get some advice
The best computer help / technicians i've come across on the net are those on PalTalk Chat - some technicians have cams so you can actually SEE what theyre talking about
...and NO im not advertising Paltalk nor do I frequent there anymore
Theres also a kool "insult room" where you can go swear at someone and they swear back - just remember to THANK THEM after they kick your *** lol

Just because its new 'retail' doesn't mean that no one out there has experience with it.
For the best answer to your possible question, i would write the best possible question. Be clear in what you're looking for, use bullets, or a numbered list, even describe the type of person that you want to answer your question. A hard core gamer isn't going to want to answer a question about Vista's new security policies, and an office user won't know about Vista's media center, or DRM.
Hope this helps!

Vista, like WinXP will have it's "bugs". My personal feeling is that I might not switch to "Vista" for about 2-3 years from now. Businesses have had the chance at "Vista" already, and they haven't been jumping at the chance to have it first. The overall costs of upgrading their hardware and the cost of the software have really put the "kibosh" on them switching to "Vista". Let all the fixes and things get found. There will probably be another "Service Pack" for WinXP yet to come. I'll stick with WinXP for the moment.

Yahoo is a super-cooled super-computer and randomly deletes questions as part of its core functions. Other core functions include sending congratulations emails as well as making sure you are up to date with all of the latest innovations yahoo provides. Minor functions such as establishing the validity of violations are carried out on a decade-by-decade basis. Randomly, of course.

I would say your chances are slim. Vista is very new and there won't be many people who have experience with it yet.
As for what to do with bad answers, I suggest you make use of the thumbs-down option. It makes me feel better.

some of us have used vista since early beta, so we could give you some sort of answer. I guess it would all depend on what the question was.

That depends on what you ask and who answers.
You could state basic requirements in the question.
# years experience, "no newbies", "power-users only" - something like that...
