I have to agree with most of the posts about Norton. You would be far better off with 2 really good programs, 1 anti-spyware and 1 anti-virus. I use and recommend CounterSpy and Kaspersky. I use the net everyday and have never had a problem since I started using this combination. You will also find Norton very difficult to remove.

Hmm, that is a good one.
First, I presume you have run the Nortons WITH the internet disconnected. Seems I had a virus or something before I had gotten the 2004 internet some years back. I cleaned one out but still had problems. I think some viruses change files or something. Anyway, I learned real fast what recovery and restore were. I ended up doing a hard recovery. Then I loaded my windows update taking my sweet time then download the Nortons again. Problems again. This time after the hard recovery, I downloaded norton as soon as I got on the internet and THEN went to download Windows XP patches. I have no trouble since.
You may want to use recover and go back to a few days and then a week or two. See what happens. Also with your norton's you should have pop up blockers activated. Go to the Norton's and click the icon, web browsing.
As a last result, save the files and programs on disk and do a hard recovery. This will erase everything back to factory specifications. Load up internet access program. Then load Norton and then start automatic window updates. Look at your turn off window icon for when it gets a hp download icon on it. Turn off while computer downloads. Reboot then do this process all over again. Took me about 3 hours. But i was playing Doom 3 too. Ever since I have not a problemo since.

As others have said, this may not be the best tool for you and your pc. Consider trying some of the free 1's out there, before deleting norton - you could disable it whilst you're trying them out. It isn't a good idea generally to run 2 products, both trying to do the same thing, such as norton.
I use AVG Anti-virus, Zone Alarm as a firewall plus Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Microsoft Windows Defender (not suitable for all versions of Windows, I think, AdAware from Lavasoft and Spyware -antispyware. These programmes are all free and I recommend them and I prefer them to Norton software that I've tried over the years. I haven't had any problems running multiple anti-spyware software on my pc.
Another option is to try a different web browser as well, instead of MS Internet Explorer. I use Opera and Firefox instead of it, as they both are more secure from ad-aware etc. I really love Opera, it's simple to use and easy to configure. If you do this, I still recommend the other software as the web browsers alone are not enough to do a full job - they don't search for infections, just stop pop-ups etc.
www.download.com is a good source for such free software, or search google or elsewhere for the name of the software you'd like to try and go for it.
If you still get problems, consider a clean install of Windows on your pc, so that you start from a clean slate. Get more help if you need it.
Good luck, Rob

Check your Norton settings make sure they are all ok. Then click your start on the menu bar, open your control panel and double click your security tab. When it opens check that your: firewall, automatic updates and your virus protection all say "on". I have yahoo tool bar (free from net) it protect spam and also comes with a pop up blocker. I have Spyware Terminater free, has a very quick scan. Along with AVG free both downloaded from net. You can not use AVG at the same time as Norton. Hope I helped

You have probably got some "Adware" on your PC. Norton doesn't see these as they are only a nuisance, not a real threat. If you click on the offered link to clean up you will be taken to a commercial site that sells questionable software that may present a real risk. Good, and FREE, checking utilities are Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, and asquared

Yeah, the problem is that Norton 2007 sucks.
Delete it, return it, demand any money you paid for it, plus damages, returned to you. Go with CA suite, or AVG suite, or even PcCillan. But for god's sake, unless you like running only norton on your computer and no other application, do not use Norton!

Maybe your doc needs more money.Infested/infected.....Norton is good anti virusware.Ok,so it's been hacked, but really,I use spysweeper.and other freeware that works great.Try an anti spy program to stop the popups, and try ad aware se (it's free) it works. If you aren't old enough,Norton was the guy on the honeymooners who usually must have smelled like ****.What does that tell you?

it might just be malfunctioning software, it may have ruined your computer, but it may have not. try deleting the program and setting it up again. if that doesn't work, i would return it to the manuafacturer (don't return to the store, they won't take it) and typically they'll send a replacement OR sometimes if you call their 800 number they can walk you thru downloading a different set online. If the problem happens again, it might be your computer... hope you don't have a compaq, those pick up bugs real easy, don't know why.
GOOD LUCK!!
