Whenever some shop assistant or other person I don't know says "Have a nice day" I always say "I doubt it, I'm going to my mother's funeral". If they are going to use inanities, I'll make them feel bad for doing so.
It is a boring, meaningless expression which should be banned everywhere it is used. What's wrong with a smile and "good morning/afternoon/evening"?

"Have a good one." - most people understand what a good one is.
"Take care now." - not the same thing, but it serves the same function.
"Cheerio." - has kind of an English feel to it.
