in years, like 10 or more years, do you approach them or do you turn away and act like you don't see them and hope they don't see you? I have had this happen to me and it always seems to happen when I am looking my worst. Like running into the grocery store for a last minute item. Even though I'm curious and want to say hi, I usually turn away. I hate having people see me after so much time has passed and I look like crap.

Once I ran into an old boyfriend and I had gotten married and had a baby. I had put on about 20 lbs since I had last seen him. When he seen me he said, "Damn, you've put on some weight!" Made me feel like crap, so I guess that is why I avoid people now.

I turn away and act like I didn't see them.

I don't know why. I think it must be an uncomfortable social position for me to be in. Really has nothing to do with the way I look, it's a mental thing.

If it really was a FREIND from the past and not just an old ACQUAINTANCE it would be rude to do anything other than approach them. Unless it was a friend that you left on bad terms with saying hi will definitely spark up a conversation. Also, knowing from experience in this matter, it feels really good to talk to them and catch up for a minute. Who knows, maybe they are back in town for good and could become a close friend again.

In regards to you telling yourself that you look like crap everytime you see someone you would like to catch up with, if it is worth not seeing them for another 10 years because you think you look like crap then I guess don't go out of your way. But then again, if you can just look away because of that, they probably were not that good of a friend anyways.

An old boyfriend would say that because he is an EX. Like I said if it was a friend you left on good terms with, they will always be your friend. In fact, they would be happy to hear about the changes in your life, not the changes in your physical appearance.

It depends on who they are..if I was really close then I probably would say hi...but usually If I see someone I knew from high school or old jobs..i try to walk the other way or hide behind my boyfriend. I like to keeps things in the past! and Yes, I always look my worst when I see people I use know!!

I dread the day when I bump into my ex (first love of my life) and knowing my luck I'll look like complete crap and both of my kids will be acting so horribly bad.

But for old friends it really depends on my mood.

I turn away just because I figure if i haven't seen them in that long, what is the point of saying hi, and catching up. I obviously didn't care about them that much.

your question made me think... i am more like you, always at my worst (or i thought to be) during those moments.. but hey, maybe it will take another 5 or 10 years to see that someone again, or not at all... so from now on, ill go my way even just to say HI. (",)

He was a jerk for talking about your weight, hunny. Dang him all to hell and may he die a horrible death! lol J/K.

Would I avoid someone I had not seen in ten years? No. I might feel weird and akward around them cause I might not know what to talk about, but I would not avoid them.

Take Care and *hugs to you*

If I see my long lost friends, I will run to them to say hi and get their contact details. Once my friend then they are alway my friend, nothing can change that.
