There are probably several reasons for this, and it's probably deeper than anyone would care to expunge on Yahoo Answers, but basically there are two things: when we are aware of being "wrong", it means we are also aware that our perspective of reality is also incorrect, which means we have been living with a false perspective, which in turn means we are back to square one: ignorance. That's a pretty scary and insecure place to be.
Another reason is probably that we seek approval from others. We all, to varying degrees, seek validation from people around us, and when we are "wrong", it means we are, at least in that regard, invalid and disapproved of, which will hurt us socially (potentially, anyway) and thus psychologically.

I feel bad when I see many people insulting you because you asked an honest question.

There are many reasons, but mostly because we failed.
Let's put it in a different way. You really like a girl and ask her out. She laughs at you or tells you to drop dead. Of course you feel hurt. Does that make you bad? Does that make you an egomaniac? Does it mean that your sense of reality is wrong?
No. It only means that you got the wrong answer.

Because we love our own egos more than the truth|

We want to look good to others rather than be good objectively|

However, a man of integrity will face any truth he has to, no matter how painful|

But there are those, when confronted with the truth, will stop their ears and say: "I will hear you another time."

They love whatever personal advantages that *their own ideas* give them, but they do not love the truth - the truth being defined as the way things really are as opposed to their own illusions|

It hurts to be wrong......is only true for some part of people........
it applies to people who are weak and egoistic......they think it will bring an wrong impression on their very good image or very reputed picture......
People who are strong enough they generally admit themselves being wrong after being falsified......
