Bear with me on this.......

Your comfort level is completely controlled by one person.... you.

And our comfort level usually varies depending on our confidence within any given situation.

Where as you may feel more comfortable with anonymity where you are not known due to there being no expectations on you, are you really really comfortable with those around you that you don't know? Some of us are. It's like a "What do I have to lose" attitude. As if, these people are strangers and if they judge me, so what! I don't ever have to see them again. Where as others are not so comfortable around strangers and become too shy to show their true selves.

But these same people can be so comfortable around people that know them, understand them, relate to them and have already accepted them for who they are and for their quirky differences.

I guess what I'm saying is that this is hard to answer because it's different for every person in every situation. I've been both the exuberant stranger and the shy stranger. I'm also very comfortable around a crowd that knows me inside out.

However, there are times when my insecurities about who I am overtake me to the point where I don't want to be around anyone I know for fear that they see I'm not as strong as I should be. *shrugs*

I guess what I'm saying is....... your comfort level depends on your confidence level. If you feel secure about who you are, it doesn't matter whether you are in a room of loved ones or a room filled with strangers..... you'll feel comfortable within your own skin. But if the situation makes you feel insecure for any reason, be it strangers or not....... the comfort fades away.

The answer is seriously within yourself. One person controls that comfort level...... you.

There are only two places where I'm really comfortable.
Both of which my name is known but it's not about that really. It's about the people in those places... I love them to death.

But other than that, yes. I would say that the place where I am not known is more comfortable than the one where everyone knows my name. When there's anonymity, I don't feel like I have to live up to anything. I can just be who I really want. When people know me, it's hard to change their perception. Most of the time, I screw up who I am... It's amazing that anyone sticks around long enough to get to know me. But I'm learning. And I'm finding strange places easier to handle. Less stress.

I can give some insight to this question. When you live where you are not known you have to make friends with your new strangers which many times are your neighbors. I have done this a couple of times over the past few years. To me it doesn't matter because of my secluded lifestyle. They aren't going to get much out of me anyway because I don't party anymore. I work, relax, exercise and enjoy a few hours alone each night. It wouldn't matter if they knew my name or not, the program is the same regardless. I gave up on trying to fit in to anyone elses social pattern a long time ago.

I would be more comfortable ia a place where I am known. I have lived in both places, it's much nicer to walk down the street and see someone you know than to walk down the street and see many people, but none that you know.

Cheers?

Edit: I like to live in a place where people don't know where I live. But at the same time be able to be around people that know me when I feel like it. Odd? Yes I am.
