I cant hardly breath b/c the pain is so severe. I have to take very small breaths, its very hard to breathe in or out. I can remember experianceing this for years now, Its just sometimes is worse and it will even go away for months at the time. It is very scary when this happens. Its hard to move my upper body b/c of the pain and its harder to breathe if I move. It literly feels like my rib is in my lung. Sometimes this will last about 15 min and other times 2min. but every time leaves a sorness when the pain is gone. I'm 30 years old, and find myself to be very heathy. I'm not very fond of taking the time to go to the Dr, but there has been times I've almost went to the ER b/c it would scare me on how painful and hard it was to breathe and about the time I would get ready to go the pain would go away. Any suggetions on what this may be?

Sweetheart, if you have experiencd this for years now, you will be GLAD you took the few hours to go to the dr. and fix this. This could be Pleurisy OR Precordial Catch Syndrome.(Google them and you will find more information.) I have had this a few times and I dont think its serious, but the pain isnt worth it. Go to the Dr. You really will be glad you did.

hello there! i get the same pain all the time. i have fibromyalgia (in short, pain for no reason). There is an official name for it..Costochondritis, which is when the cartiledge on the ribs become inflamed rather than Pleurisy (when the lung membrane becomes inflamed)....I'm almost certain that this is what is bothering you, because it bothers me too...but do check with your doctor. My advice cannot be replaced for medical advice....but I'm almost certain this is what it is...that's what they keep telling me. I know it feels like it's the lungs, but it's probably your ribs. Motrin is really the only thing to take for it, but if it becomes a huge problem, get a referral to see a rheumatologist so they can give you something stronger. Hoped this helped :-)

it sounds to me like you have a rib out of place much like having your back out see a good chiropractor and with a couple pops you will feel good as new! Make sure to ask when making the Appt. if the DR. does Ribs some don't! also note that setting it will smart a bit but the pain involved will be over in a split second!

I would strongly suggest going to your doctor, even if the symptoms are not present at the time. Describe the symptoms to him and I am sure you will get the answer you need... This may have nothing to do with your lungs at all,but could be a heart-related condition such as angina... So don't ignore it !!

It may be pleurisy. I had it once years ago, they didn't have anything to help me back then and I had to wait for it to pass. Medicines may have caught up now and you may be able to get a prescription for it. See your doctor.
