Celebrities as just people, and need to face the same punishments the average citizen faces for the same crime. Also laywers and judges need to face the same punishments when convicted of criminal acts. Just because they are friends of the prosecutors and judges hearing the case is no reason to let them skate.

Not totally sure about harsher, but equal would be real nice.
Don't count on seeing this in your lifetime. Money, power, threat of lawsuit, all big equalizers for District Attorneys and their power.
I saw our local D.A. who was showboating on big cases, but not filing smaller cases where the victim wasn't rich or well-known.
Let someone with some money or power get involved as the victim, and it was FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW for prosecution.
As for celebrity defendants, look at Russell Crowe, he didn't get jack for smacking a desk clerk in the head with a phone. Do you think you or I would've received preferential treatment... Don't think so.
Guess what, the victim usually has to take off work and lose pay, the celebrity can afford to miss work, they are already rich!

Celebrities have gotten away with child rape and committing murder! The judicial system is already lacking with punishing the everyday criminals so celebrities are already one up because of their status. Anybody who breaks the laws should be punished and some punishments need to be harsher.

Not harsher than other people.
In my experience at a DA's office in CA, it's not more lenient. I think people just fail to realize how lenient the criminal justice system is! At least for those typical celebrity indiscretions like DUI and drug possession.

They are more visible, they influence hundreds, or thousands by their actions yes, I see your point. A slap on the wrist doesnt show that good example, I know.
The judge's hands are tied unfortunately. Some of these celebrities and their managers know the benefit of media exposure, whether good or bad, to their clients.
SO- if you give them that extra attention, you just become part of their social group and become this reliable source of press/media exposure.
Bad move.

The judicial system should be any harder on celebrities than they are the average American. No one's societal stature should impact the extent of their punishment. That is where the phrase "Justice is Blind' came from.

Not only should they be harsher on celebrities but also on pedophiles, rapist, and murders. If you commit one of the latter you should not have any rights what so ever.
