Interesting.
I keep reading this over and over. So many thoughts just keep rushing through my mind. Faces and names and experiences. I seriously don't think I've ever thought about it..... but what you have just said....... wow...... it makes so much sense.
I've known people that have just showered me with attention. And naively I think that all of this attention makes me feel they truly care. Once I feel that this "caring" they've shown through all this attention is true and sincere, I respond by opening up to them. But then when I finally open up and reach out to them when I need that help or advice or just that ear, they might laugh off what I have to say and go on with flattery and attention...... that then becomes meaningless.
Thank goodness this is not true with all people. But there are so many times in life when I realize that its all about the "show" and not about what happens behind the scenes.
The person that gains my trust is the person that may not ever come forward during the day to day goings on. But comes out of the wings for a surprise entrance, knowing they are needed. Being a support. Giving you that shoulder. Holding up that foam finger telling you that you're #1. They don't shower you with meaningless praise and attention. They just respect who you are and want to celebrate your successes or shoulder the pain when you are sad. They want to talk and discuss and debate and discover........ and respect your judgements even if they differ from your own.
No.... the attention is not always equal to the respect.
I could do without the attention........ its the respect I need. The sincerity I crave. The trust....... that is imperative.
