You can deposit as much money in one bank as you want to. However, if you're American and using an American bank, you need to be advised that anything over $100,000 is not insured. So to get around that, you just deposit $100,000 in several different accounts, depending of course on how much money you want to deposit. If you do have that much money you would want it to work for you in some way, whether it be drawing interest or investing in IRA's etc...
