That depends on when you started watching.I started watching when I was a kid and Tom Baker was the Doctor.
I just recently started watching the new series and like the new Doctor, (David Tennant).
cheer up Cruel Angel,now you get to see Eccelston on Heroes.

If you ask people from the USA,those growing up in the 1960's-1980's, most will say Tom Baker because that's the one public TV introduced to us for the first time.
I would have to say though that my personal favorite is David Tennant and Chris Eccleston
I can tell you who a favorite won't be, and that's Colin Baker. The only Dr. to ever get fired off the show. He was extremely unpopular. I don't believe many liked his attitude.

For me, #7- Sylvester McCoy. He had a bit of the ditzy character and humor, but they also gave him a manipulative darker side as they added more mystery to his origin and past.
Plus, he had a more developed and realistic relationship with Ace. He actually did things for her (in her good interest but also still part of the secretive side, as he took her to the house she burned down and back to her relative's time without telling her). Their relationship was way better than the usual female companion that is just along for the ride and just gets into trouble and ends up screaming a lot).
The 9th Doctor (Eccelston) was a lot like that... shame he didn't want to continue in the role.

I believe that Dr Who #4 was the best actor. I believe that his name was Tom Baker, he delivered the lines perfectly. Wasn't bad on the eyes either.
