Children, 1/5 of US children live in households below the poverty line. So do their mothers but not all women have children so women are a smaller percentage. It use to be the old but the increase is social security payments in the 70's have move most above the poverty line.

There is not one race that should be singled out...People in general of all races and creeds live in poverty, and why don't you know that??????Women should not be singled out either, there are a lot of women that are the bread winners and head of household in a lot of homes across the Good old U S A. There are people of all ethnicities and ages who are below the poverty line. There are people in cities and people out in the country who are poor. There are educated people and there are un educated people who are poor. You can stereotype and say that young single moms who are of a minority race are the ones who are predominatly poor but that would be incorrect.
