It could be big or small whatever. For me its when my older sister started laughing mid conversation at me and I was dumbfounded- she apologized and said "its just funny hearing you ask if somethings practical thats all" It was then I realized I'm not this hip, crazy, fly by the seat of my pants person anymore, I've evolved into a sensible adult. Something I never thought would happen, nor did I think I wanted...

I took a bite of something I used to LOVE as a kid, and said "That's just too sweet". That's when I knew. As a kid, there's no such thing as too sweet.

I started making adult decision when only about eight or nine years of age. My parents were unable to help me with these decisions for whatever the reason, good or bad. Later I made the adult decision to try drugs and then sex. But, what really makes an adult an adult? I think any irresponsible behavior could be ranked as adolescent behavior. For instance, a litter bug is acting irresponsibly and like an adolescent. So for someone older than eighteen or twenty-one there is now a need for adult education to end all irresponsible behavior.

It was the first Thanksgiving that the old women sat in the dining room and my sisters and my cousins and I had to do the dishes for about 40 people I was the oldest of the goup of young ones. I was 35 at the time, had 6 kids, but had never been one of the "grown ups" at a family function. I realized that they were old, and the next generation was coming up. And, heaven help us all, it was us.

I think for me it was the realization that I could, but I shouldn't ask for my mommy's help anymore. I need to take care of things myself. Also when my grandmother died, it made me start to realize that I was not always going to have others to fall back on. Although, I wouldn't say I'm very mature or responsible now, either : )

I am married with 2 kids and I always joke that I am not responsible enough to own a dog, I am surprised I have 2 kids and I can hardly take care of myself. Dogs are just too much work.

: )

Yeah, I remember the moment clearly. It was the moment the midwife laid my first born child on my chest, and he looked into my eyes for a very long time with the most trusting look I have ever seen. OMG! I was petrified, because in that moment I became the "grown-up" without any question in my mind, and that little baby was saying with his sweet little eyes that there was no going back.

What really made me into an adult? Was when I realized that my mother's mind was going (Alzheimer's) and that I had to change from being her child to being her parent. It's not an easy conversion for anyone.
