Euthanasia. Meaning : Also called mercy killing. the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die, as by withholding extreme medical measures, a person or animal suffering from an incurable, esp. a painful, disease or condition.
[FROM DICTIONARY.COM]

If you had someone that you loved dearly (husband, wife, father, mother, children, etc.) who had a terminal illness for which there is no cure (absolutely no possibility of a cure or effective treatment within the time left) and was in excruciating pain that pain killers could not alleviate or reduce.

Would (and could) you assist in the suicide or kill mercifully yourself this loved one?

Would it be possible for you to kill your loved one to save them from the pain of living any longer?

Please explain your answers.
I thank you in advance.

I too am a nurse and I've been in this situation many times. I also took care of both my grandmothers at home until they died - one of cancer and the other of a massive stroke. Both lingered and were in pain. I wished many times that I could have shortened the time for them and made it easier. But there is no easy answers for the dying process. I gave my grandmother her IV morphine for pain - but always within established limits. I would not assist in a mercy killing but neither would I do anything that might prolong the process.

I am a registered nurse... so I have seen what it's like to watch someone slowly die away. It's horrible and part of you does wish that the family could do something to help the patient end their life peacefully, but I am also a christian and I believe God has an appointed time for everyone one of us to die. It's not up to us to make that decision. Sometimes a person holds on to life because there is something that needs to be done or someone they need to see before dying. We should never rob them of that chance.

Of course even though it sounds morbid and hideous but in my opinion everybody,if he wants to, has the the right of dying like a person instead of being kept alive as some plant. For instance if something happened to me and that there would be no chance of recovery it is my right like a person to die properly instead of being tortured.Yes for euthanazia

If the reasoning mind is gone then there is no "human" life left. So feel free to euthanize. If someone wishes to die, that is their right. The proscription against the use of force outside of self-defense prevents one from interfering against another's suicide. It's also their right to hire an agent to do the job if they are physically unable.

Assisted suicide is wrong. All Abrahamic religions ban suicide as it is a sin. It is not wrong to make someone comfortable, offer him medical assistance, pain relief, emotional comfort and to allow him to refuse medical treatment.

No, it's not.

If it's what the loved one wants and you know there is no chance of recovery or comfort then yes, I would allow it but I don't think I could assist.

if this happens to my loved one i will do everything to extend his life even if i will be in debt. but if it has been too long already and still there's no response i believe that it is really time to let go.i know that this will be a very painful decision but you are not only the one who's suffering but also your loved one...but then, in your statement you said that he is in pain so there's still a response.i still believe that part of him still wants to live...

actually GOD don't decide who lives or die, but rather kick someone in the **** if they live or die wrong.

i think it should be ok to put someone to a death sleep if they wished it, as long as they are disabled in someway that is a burden upon society or families..

i know if i have gone brain dead etc, i wouldn;t want to be a vegitable and be a burden for decades for my family... its just not worth it...
