sure... as long as Federer gets badly injured or assassinated. Federer is keeping a firm grip on the no. 1 position and Gonzalez and the others will have to do a lot to bring him down.
besides, it remains to be seen if Gonzalez is going to become another Baghdatis. or if he can continue in his hot form and improve. if he plays like he did at the australian open and improves on his weaknesses like his backhand, I'd think he'll make it to the top 5 very soon.

In my opinion, absolutely not at no. 1. There's this guy named Federer who's younger than Gonzales. Federer is faster and has much better net game than Gonzo. Some remote chance that he can make no 2. Nadal has fallen off the hot player list since Wimbledon 06. However, his dominance on clay and consistent results on other surfaces makes Nadal a very solid no 2. Gonzo has to continue with his inspired and disciplined tennis he's shown in the Aussi Open to have a remote chance at no 2. I bet my money on Nadal to finish no 2 again. I am convinced enough to put Gonzo at no 3. From what I heard from the ESPN tennis analysts, Gonzo is committed to staying on course with Larry Stefanki's (spelling??) vision of building on Gonzo's talents while minimizing his weaknesses (solidify his backhand, take less risks, work on fitness etc.). I like Gonzo at no 3 for the year-end ranking.

He can,but definitely not in the next season, because Fedex is difficult to be dethroned from no.1 in the coming season. It would be a herculean task to overcome the phenomenal Federer to beat him to clinch the top spot.

Definately not...if he can be then really Andy or Marat or Nadal should be hovering up there...but Federer is still keeping the position to himself... I reckon he will be in top 5 or even 3 but that is still hard work..because he has only shown his best tennis in Australian Open..and we don't know if it just a fluke..but I hope its not..because he has shown some great tennis...

not no. 1 cos federer is there and i dont see him coming down.
now the clay court season is beginning so nadal will be dominant .
however gonzalez is playing really good and if he continues this form he may get to no.2.

I think Gonzlales could be number two next season (behind Federer). Nadal has lost his charm and Gonzo is now the second best player if he can keep his form up.

Number one, no chance in hell, but if Gonzo keeps playing like he did at the Aussie open, he has a good shot at number 2.
