I'm getting a new iMac now (switching from PC) and I was wondering although 3GB is the maximum, is that enough? Cause i'm maxing everything out. But, I wanted to do video editing, picture editing, podcasting, music etc. I also am going to be putting games in it like, The Sims, and all the expansion packs. So i'm kind of unsure whether I should be putting on these games on it, and if it will slow down etc.

There is more than one type of RAM, DDR2 I believe is what they use in the new computers, basically twice as efficient as the original rams in the other computers. For example if you had a computer with 512Mb of DDR ram before, and no you have 3Gb of DDR2 then you actually have the equivalent of 6Gb. Make sure your processor can take the load as well because RAM will not insure you speed, however it helps greatly in mutlitasking. Look for the multi-core CPU's, these will make your video editing fast. Things such as Sims, etc are made for the general populous so you shouldn't worry about RAM. Harddrive space is what you need if you are going to install many programs, unless you run them all at once, which i doubt anyone would play the sims while editing videos and picture editing

I am not all that familiar with mac, but with my pc I have 4 gb. With all of the advancement of the pc why go mac? I asked a friend that recently. He has a mac and it doesn't even compare to my pc and it cost the same as mine. I have a pc with an AMD cpu, ( Fx 62 ) and an nVidia gpu. I just don't see the reason for changing over. They cost more and don't have the high end performance as a pc if the pc is set up right. It isn't safer anymore either. Hackers are going after macs now and also there are virus and spyware programs out there for macs now. So why pay the big bucks when you can have a really nice pc for same money.

You're talking about hard drive space, right? 3GB should be good for a while, but one of the great products Mac has is extremely small external hard drives at decent prices. Talk to the representative at 800 MY-APPLE too. They might have some suggestions. Good luck with your switch to Mac. I've been on a mac since college and I'll never go back. I just got a new power book and I love it. Have fun!!!

It depends what you're talking about.
3 GB hard drive. Then No, it's too small
3 Ghz processoe speed. More then Fast enough.
3 GB of Ram Memory. More then enough.

No, you can't "slow down" by adding more RAM unless the ram is either different type or different sizes. Adding more RAM won't hurt and 3 is MORE than enough.

the first thing we need to know is is that memory or is that hard disk. If it is hard disk, that is not nearly enough. If it is memory, that should be more than enough for just about anything.

I suppose 3 gigs would be more than enough for all your needs listed.
