At first I thought what they did was neat, but after a couple of eps my opinion changed. I know that they wanted to keep as much of the original look as possible, but I found myself wishing they did a little more. Take the orbit scenes. They only had a couple of shots they reused over and over (just changing the planet)... but with the cgi, they could have done a lot more versions to vary it (different angles, distances, etc). Same with any external views of the ship, especially the end shots of it either leaving orbit, or heading out into space.

Then after a while, I started actually missing the original effects. I wasn't around when it first aired, but I grew up with the reruns in the late 70s, and all this time, that's what I've been used to seeing. I found myself having the new version on, and doing something else (but following the ep through in my mind)... I look at the tv, and I expect to see the old FX, and not the new ones, and the new ones just don't look like they fit anymore to me.

So I stopped watching the updated ones. I held off on getting the new dvd sets because I knew they were doing the updated version, and were prepping HD DVD versions (which they announced this past Friday would be starting to come out in 4th Quarter of 2007).

For me, I'm happy with the version that I grew up with and have been seeing all this time... so I can live without the updates.

They're great! The FX are cool. Some have a few new CGI's in the star fields. The colors are brighter and the pic is much more defined.

I wish that they would leave the classics alone. If they want to use new special effects then have a whole new star trek.

Where, when, I'd like to see them.
I've always wanted the old series to be remade with new actors and better FX.
