Ok here is the story...They are like the best of friends and everything which is cool. They told all of us tonight that they wanted to get married for the benefits and tax breaks and what not. What I am wanting to know is if this is such a smart idea? Just some little bit of extra info we are talking about WEST TEXAS!!! Anyways any feedback would be so great and nice.

I am going to support them but they asked me if I would do some research for them and figure out if its for one agaisnt the law and for two how expensive would it be. They claimed to have looked for all of this information but I just wanted to see what I could pull up for them.

Good idea? Probably not. An idea with some perks, possibility depends on their values and plans for the future. But if straight girl wants to have kids one day or gay guy meets the man of his dreams what to they plan to do then?

I think they need to do some research to determine what the financial benefits are. Talk to a Financial Consultant, they can give you facts and figures whether it is a monetary benefit or not. If there is a financial benefit, they'll have to weigh that over the hassle and cost and splitting property should they find their soul mate and want to divorce (and when this country wakes up and honors gay marriage, which will be soon).
On the emotional front, they are going to have to consider whether him being firmly in the closet is the way they want to live. Many people have done this, and lived a social lie, and hated every minute of it. They are adults though, and going into this knowing the sexual orientation of each other. I'm not going to judge, I don't predict this will last a lifetime though, and they need to basically consider how they are going to break up their household when that time comes.

Eh, people get married for the wrong reasons all the time. I don't see this as any worse or better then a bunch of other stories I've heard of. But in West Texas, a gay man better be pretty damn in the closet, is all I'm thinking.

What tax breaks? I am married and I have yet to find a break!
As far a Straight and Gay...I have a few friends that went that way. They have there own life styles. As many married people do. Theirs are not monogamous. Let’s face it, we all have our sexual needs. I really do not see anything wrong with it. Many people get married for many reasons, in the old days it was seldom for love. This one sounds like there is the possibility of love.

Bad bad idea. Marriage is a sacred covenant instituted by God and while they may be trying to get away from such things as taxes, in the long run (and the short run too) it's better topay the taxes and not go directly against God. It's a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God cuz our God is a consuming fire.

There are more married couples like this than you would believe. There are a number of reasons that this is so. One, of course, is the bigotry that prevents homosexuals the right to benefit from a legal marriage. Another is that some areas of the U.S. have dangerously violent bigots that force their homosexual neighbors to live in the closet. A marriage of opposite gender where one is homosexual also helps the homosexual to adopt a child and raise it with the BF or GF.
Congradulation to your friends.

would I do it? probably not. But if your looking for my opinion then why not it's not like it's anything new.. at least she knows he's gay now and doesn't have to wait 5 to 10years down the road to find him in the bed with another man while there children are right down the hall way!!! that is when it's sad..... so more power to ya if your happy that is all that counts Just remember that divorce is not to cheep anymore!!! Good Luck and have a great Wedding!!! :)

Well to each their own but I think they are idiots. Guessing they are not interested in finding a real relationship. There are somethings that should not be compromised for wealth, love is one such thing. But whatever.

I think this happens more than most people realise. They're not hurting anyone and I think you're a good friend because you support them and aren't judgemental.
