I let mine sleep on her stomach when she was about 4 months I would say when they start lifting themselves and rolling over, this way its less likely it would be smothered by crib padding. Though I know many new mommies and daddies that lay their babies on their stomachs from birth. I would suggest just keeping a close eye on your little one, and watching its habits, Im sure you already do.

You should always put a baby to sleep on his or her back, never on their stomach. Once they can roll easily in both directions they will begin to choose what position they want to sleep in, at that point it is okay to let them stay on their stomach if they roll over, but you shouldn't put them down that way.

Genrally they can sleep on their stomach when they are able to roll over, some babies you can't stop from sleeping on their stomach at that point.

When the baby can roll over by itself. My daughter never liked to sleep on her back, but my doctor said it was fine for her to sleep on her side, but I used one of the sleep postioners.

You always put them to sleep on their back, even after they are able to roll over onto their stomach, but at that point there's no need to roll them back over.

When they are able to roll over on their own. It IS still important to make sure there aren't other choking hazards in the crib when they're on their tummies.
