Why is it that the only decent new songs are watered down, simple versions of old songs with a lot less complexity and trite lyrics?

I know they ripped off hooks and chord sequences in my day too - technically "Stray Cat Strut" is "Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures, for example - but at least they changed the tempo, the lyrics and the whole theme of the song.

And Sheryl Crow - ALL of her good songs are blatant rip-offs. All I Wanna Do is Stuck In the Middle with You.

If you're gonna rip someone off, rip off Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson like they did in the 1960s and 1970s!

I agree. Where would Clapton be without Johnson?...well he'd still kick butt, but with more talent than any other "musician" today.

I totally agree but everyone is plagiarizing in some shape or form. you could find instances of this in almost every song out there.
