No. Totalitarianism is alive and well, and it's not going to go away. Socialism, Marxism and State capitalism are all pretty much the same, and need the power of the state in order to subjugate individuals. Without coercion, human individuals resent having their labor stolen and given to free-loaders (aka, each according the their need.)

As regards Russia ---Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Been that way for centuries.

And the Ghost of the Third Comintern permeates America.

I can't add anything new...so I'll stick by RightWing. She's got it just about covered. However, Russian and the US get along quite well now in comparison to the 1930's-early 60's. If you were not born during that time, you could never imagine how close we were to a nuke war with Russia. Thank God things changed otherwise we would not be having this conversation right now.

Communism created a revolution that killed almost 6.5 million Turks, punished Chechens, Jews and followers of the Russian Orthodox tradition. It banned private property, the right to self-defense, freedom of speech, the right to vote, right to privacy, freedom of movement, etc. I was told you could end up in a Soviet prison for ten years because you didn't show up for your job.

The basis of communism is whether or not you believe in dialectical materialism, which I do not.

To American "freedom" is synonymous with capitalism. I do not beleive that Russia will ever turn to true capitalism. The US, on the other hand, may eventually move further to the left.

We are already the same. Our competition isn't over ideals, any longer, but over trade and profit.
