Samlyn,
The website below talks about the way we sometimes split ourselves into parts that don't agree with each other. Part of us wants to please a parent. Anothe part wants to run around and get crazy. The web site and other sites that talk about neurolinguistic programming are pretty complicated, but really interesting, and good ways to change your life, if that is your aim.
If you mean something different and more physical then think about what the whole is (you) and what you -do- that is different in different circumstances.

To identify means that you acknowledge and understand what role the parts you are talking about play, what gives these parts character. Each person has many parts and they are not all physical, some are spiritual or supernatural. In order to represent your parts you have to remember character, whatever you do to represent your parts must depict character. You can represent your parts through symbols (like patches, sculpture, or photographs) or you could write about your parts (tell the story of your parts). You could set an example for your parts as a representation, your spiritual parts could be represented by how you dress or act. I think your question was very deep and thought provoking, don't listen to all the other answers.

Make a training in Neuro Linguistic Programming and you will learn to identify parts of your emotional landscape. Then you can do a process like Parts integration for example or a Six Step Reframing, which will enable you to identify and get in contact (in case of the 6step reframe) with your creative part to give ideas to the part which is making the problem.
In case of a parts conflict you realise that one part of you wants that and the other part wants something else. During the process or technique which you then do, you find the higher positive intent of both parts and chunk up until there is a common intention found and then bring both parts together and integrate.

Time passed history, habits formed you and your parts. It is with respect to the whole that parts come alive. Sensory parts enclose the outside within inside. The representation just is; and is just.
