this is what royal mail say about airmail...from uk to the usa

the only items over 2kg in weight that can be sent by Royal Mail’s international services are books and pamphlets. These can be sent via Printed Papers up to a maximum weight of 5kg; for each additional 20g add 09p to Europe or 20p to World Zones 1 and 2.

Please note; No Items over 2kg (including books and pamphlets) can be sent to Canada and only books over 2kg can be sent to the Irish Republic

yes you can still send bty taking the parcel to your local post office as far as i am aware, however it will need to be sent via parcelforce the parcel arm of royal mail. alternatively look for the other carrires such as UPS , Federal Express on line amongst others. search for couriers. if you use anything other than royal mail you may have to arrange a collection date with the courier.
4400g =4.4Kg which could be very expensive to send.
your best bet is to do your research by browsing the different web sites as companies frequently change the prices. so what was cheap one week may not be the cheapest now for example.

good luck.

I don't know where you are getting the 4kg bit from.
I've sent far heavier parcels than that. Ordinary parcel post. Are you trying to claim letter post rates or something?
Anyway, FedEx or UPS or similar will take it.

Well it seems strange to me. The last time that I was in the UK I sent a box of personal effects that weighed around 10kgs to Australia. I send it sea mail as that was cheaper, but could have used airmail.
Maybe its something to do with the USA and potential terrorism.

My mum and dad deliver me (i'm in united states) loads of programs from the united kingdom and that i do no longer understand in the event that they have regarded on the kit shippers like UPS, yet they continually deliver it Royal Mail, so it must be greater low-value than the rest. even whether that's no longer the main inexpensive, my programs are continually right here quite quickly and are in large shape whilst they arrive.
