When I put it in gear it wont move. I've added transmission fluid and still nothing, Do I need a new one, or a new car. Its a 1994 Chevy Lumina. I know its an old car but it has a good engine.

sounds like you need to have it looked at. Automatic trannies are a tricky business though, sooooo complicated. Get a pro to look at it, because it could be something as simple as a loose shift cable or your torque convertor could be messed up or stuck.

Clutch? No your car has an automatic. Could be quite a few things. I assume it was low on fluid before adding? Was it making any noises or shifting erratically b4 it stopped working. Could be a shifter cable (fairly inexpensive). Have someone look under hood on drivers side straight below brake resovoir while you move shifter if they can see the cable move the lever that counts that out.

If it was making noise before parking it maybe a axle cv joiint has failed. Little more complex to test yet worth having ckd by mechanic if it was making noise before especially when turning corners. Moderate expense.

Worst case is bad transmission. Does the fluid on the stick look dark brown or smell burnt if so that is not so good.

Whatever you do try to cap expenses on a car this age at 1000 or close to it. Any more than that and you are spending your down payment for a newer car. Best of Luck.

This car most likely is an automatic right it sounds to me like you have blown the transmission which will run you some serious cash to repair get it checked out by a pro but my answer is time for a new one or atleast another beater. it could be sometjhin easy like a snap cable or something else but really get a pro to take a look I would have it towed to a transmission shop since that appears to be the problem. This just makes sense since alot of mechanics shop don't necessarily work on transmissions.

Well if you listen to mopardrag heavens know what you will end up with. He's not even aware of the differences between a $20,000 truck and a $65,000 truck. Take your vehicle to a transmission shop and have a professional check out the problem for you.

It's sounds as if your transmission is damaged or possibly the linkage from you transmission and shifter is disconnected. Good luck to you.
