I have always found dark poetry, novels, paintings, etc. beautiful. But all of the sudden, I am beginning to feel a bit dark and I do not know why? It feels weird, like a strange connection.

Macabre is a better word for the type of things that I like and find "beautiful"

Sounds OK! We often go through periods of different interests and there is beauty in the things you call dark. Enjoy the connection, explore it, and be ready for the next connection when it appears.

It could be the start of depression. I know that when I had depression I get very dark, However now that I have 'gotten over it' I still have that dark streak running through me (I don't think that it would be a good thing to lose it). We who are able to see the beauty in the 'dark' side have a very special gift that the masses do not get. Cherish it.

My suggestion is go with your dark feelings but keep them in check, you don't want to got into a depression trust me on that.

Hope you understand what I mean and that this helps.

The darkest hour is just before dawn.

A connection there surely is, and it is not strange at all. You must go through something to realize its worthlessness, in your case all that macabre stuff. Then a pause, a lull comes. This is what you are experiencing now.

Well, when you continue to read the depressing "dark" stuff over and over and over....it begins to be integrated into your head. You begin to look at the world from the same perspective as the authors of those things. My suggestion, take a break from the dark stuff.

Here's a word from the Bible: Psalm 42:5
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him.

Whenever you're downtrodden, God's always there to help you through it if you ask Him,

Maybe your just opening up to new things, not shutting out the old (or the norm) but allowing yourself to accept and see beyond. To appreciate all art. Sometime what is different to the norm is considered dark or weird.

If you were to associate with a person who was always stealing and getting into drugs, you might pick up their bad habits. So is the same with reading dark novels and poetry, you begin to feed your mind with things that are not "light" or positive.
