There's so many watches out there!

Buy a watch that's stainless steel, swiss or japanese movements, quartz dial, water resistant over 50 meters, automatic winding, double locking clasp, and has a date display.

A watch like this can cost you around $150-$400. Don't get a watch that has a lot of gold or painted (ex. black, red, etc..), it'll only rub off over time.

There are lots of brands that meet these requirements. ESQ, Citizen, Seiko, Kenneht Cole, Fossil to name a few.

I personally prefer Seiko Kinetic watches. They tend to be long lasting, high quality, very accurate and are always breaking records as far as longest charge using Kinetic Energy. Even the $10k+ watches can't compete.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

that question is too general. you need to figure out the recipient's style before purchasing a watch, since it is a very personal and frequently worn accessory. if you don't get the right thing, you might as well just put it away in the drawer yourself.

higher pricepoints of $5000+ are audemars piguet, patek philippe, jaeger-lecoultre, rolex, cartier

mid-range pricepoints of $1500-5000 include baume & mercier, breitling, tag heuer, raymond weil, hermès, gucci

low pricepoints of under $1000 include seiko, citizen, movado, fossil, bulova, kenneth cole, hamilton, etc. i think these are all horribly tacky and would never give one as a gift.

the only cheap watch i think is cool is swatch, the only trouble is, they use plastic crystals which tend to scratch easily. plus a swatch is more of a novelty/fun item, not a very impressive gift.

most men would probably go for an elegant and basic model such as a baume & mercier stainless hampton.

bois_keep_swinging great suggestions. I'm assuming that you're looking for a lower end watch since you didn't even think to specify a price range. For affordable watches that are great quality, check out Ball. http://www.ballwatch.com/

if you can afford it, i'd say a rolex or an audemars piguet. those watches are really good quality and handmade. if you're on a budget, swatches are pretty decent.

I like the black one with the simple little diamond where the '12' should be. Is it Mondovi?

I got my dad one from Tiffany's and it was for men. I loved it on the sells guy but my dad never wears it.
