No - when we where a truer capitalistic Nation we where closer to dictatorship - in a way. Those in power could make any rule they wanted. Then the laws came in to protect the children and the workers and all. As we migrated closer to a socialistic form of government (where the feds have their finger in protecting all your rights and profits (from getting any))and "free" medical to all, we are getting further from a dictatorship. There are those who will abuse their power and claim rights they do not have. The question is will the people let these power hungry souls get away with it??

A dictatorship is for life. My father was a soldier during WW2. They fought the Nazis. People today like to throw around the words dictator and fascist, but have never seen real ones. My dad did and so did thousands of others. They were drafted.
Back then ,after Pearl Harbor was attacked FDR put Japanese Americans in interment camps. So did Canada. The newspapers were surpressed. Many people tend to forget these things.

The sitting President has ignored the Congress and the will of the People. He has ignored the law and the Constitution, and has said he can label ANYONE(including US citizens) "enemy combatants", and purely on his own whim, he can have them arrested and jailed indefinitely. I'm pretty sure this qualifies as dictatorship.

No, if you have a dictator, there would be no more elections. A dictator stays in power until death or they are over thrown. We will have another election for President in 2 years.

Nah... We never seem to like our leaders enough for long enough- to give them the opportunity to take over the Country. Plus, we're all so opinionated ourselves (& our freedom of speech encourages that), there's no way we'd give up that privledge to ONE person- no matter how popular or smart he or she was.
