It is quite popular to do this. Ive seen other characters refer to themselves in 3rd person form as well. I find Misa Misa very very hot.
And the reason for L's ringy eyes is because like Gaara. They are insomniacs. They dont get any sleep. In which with Gaara's case, if he slept. His shukaku would take over him. With L, he stays awake due to his busy work as a detective as well as his high sweet tooth which gives him lots of sugar rushes.

Because L is under-nutritioned, and probably never sleeps. (my guess is that he is a vampire. WAHAHA!!)
Do not compare him to Gaara!!! They are both really great characters, but Gaara's obsessed with killing, while L is a brilliant genius fighting for justice :P

cos Misa is pretty but dumb. again, maybe it's something common in japanese language to refer to themselves like that.
L is my favourite. Kira looks better in the comic books, his movie actor ruins everything!!!
shiori is good.
L is insomniac. Most of geniuses have sleeping problem, I think.

because in Japanese culture it is more common to refer to yourself with your name rather then "I" when you are talking about yourself. And While Misa might play this up a bit, it's not at all uncommon ... their grammar is a lot different.
L is not my type.
Kira is yummy.
L has dark circles because he never sleeps and stares at computer monitors all day ... or possibly because he has terrible posture...???? I don't know on that one

I don't think L is all that hot, in the anime, he was hotter in the movie
I'm a total Kira/Light fangirl, though..cept for the way he looked in the movie. lol
L has the dark circles under his eyes b/c he doesn't sleep all that much and is probably anemic, due to his diet.

Also yep Light is super hot, especially in the episodes when hes not kira. L is kind of cute, i think if he improved his posture and got more sleep he would be almost as hot as Light :3
