As long as they are both rear drive. Fwd I would have to get my books out on that one though.
Anyway, if both rear wheel drive then some problem would be in the shifter though. But if they both have the shifter on the steering wheel then you only need to change the indicator with the Park, drive, 1, 2 on it. I am not sure if the Cavalier is console shift or not.
Also You should look at a V8 rather than a v6 for the Grand Prix, but the way gas is cheaper on the six. You can always switch engines on anything. They sell motor mount adaptors.
The only thing you may have a problem with is the driveshaft for the tranny. Also the rod from the shift to the tranny may be a little different too, but not that hard to correct.
If the transmission was good from the car you switch and you plan to drive it. Change the transmission oil while the whole unit is out. LOT EASIER. You know the two long transmission lines that go from the radiator to the transmission. Well use compressed air to blow the transmission oil out of the radiator line going to radiator to ensure a CLEAN flush. Then use SYNTHETIC transmission oil. Also, another tip. When you have the transmission pan off, it would not hurt to put a big magnet in there. If there is a Harbor Freight nearby, you can buy a nice one for a few bucks. I also use one in the Engine oil. FIrst it will not hurt anything. But it helps to pick up the microscopic metal in the oil. I was doing this before they started doing this in the cars transmission. Also If change the engine oil in the one you plan to drive. Use the cheapest oil there is and a new filter. Now after one month, change oil again but use synthetic oil and new filter.
Synthetic oil is due to change at twice the time as regular oil.
I disagree. Regular oil breaks down after 12,000 miles, synthetic oil after 60,000 miles. But what I do is change the oil filter EVERY two months. I take it off carefully put the oil back in the engine and then put a new oil filter on. Every year I change the oil.
The cause of engine breakdown and wear is microscopic metal particles in the oil. That is why you change oil every 3 months more or less. They base it on mileage of 3000 miles. Well since synthetic break down is 5x that of regular I figure I could go 1 year at least. BUT you still need to change filters. I had an 82 Toyota Celica till 1990 (got it stolen) and the engine was smooth with nearly 200,000 miles on it. 2 years in Germany and the whole family drove it but I made sure the oil was changed. I made them send me a receipt. I did not trust them. lol
Have fun and any problemos buzz me. Forgot, check on the harness too.

I don't know, but they're both rear wheel drive I think, so with some improvisation, yes, I think you could do that.

Yes, it's possible, but the computer and wiring harness have to go with it.
