13 is too young to get a "real" job. But you could be like a mothers helper, babysitter, dog walker, mow ppl's lawns etc. It just depends what you know how to do, and what your confortable doing.

According to wikipedia the age is 16 in california, but I believe you can work around 14 or 15 as long as you get a job permit. But to do that you generally have to have both your parents, and school sign off on it.

Personally, I would just figure out something I liked doing, and was good at, and try to make something out of it. If you live near some small non chain stores, maybe you could make a deal with them to sweep the floors or something. When I was your age I made a deal with a local used bookstore, and I would sweep there floors, and dust all the bookshelves. They would give me $10 to sweep, then $1 per bookshelf I would dust.

If you want to go the babysitting route, many parents will probably think your too young to leave there kids alone with you, at least for long periods of time. But to show that you are interested and dedicated, look up your local red cross and take a babysitting and or cpr course. Then offer to be a mothers helper. If ou don't know what that is, basically you just do like it says, help the mom. You keep an eye on the kids and play with them while she does chores, cooks, etc. You could also talk to neighbors and see if they have any extra chores they need done. Do you live by anybody thats handicapped or elderly? They often need an energetic young person to help with simple tasks.

The first few things you try probably won't pay very well, but as you get better at it, and more ppl know you for your work, more ppl will want you, and be willing to pay more. Also, if you have any friends that are interested in doing the same thing, that could help. You could start a mini business.
