I am tired of Comcast and casting around trying to figure out altneratives...that are less expensive without moving me into the dark ages in terms of performance. No option in my area for fibre. We use the computer for Pogo, music download, music bridge to my stereo and general browsing.

I've never had DSL but my friends have. I have cable and there is a noticeable comparison between the two. Cable is almost always faster. DSL is definitely faster than dial-up though. If that extra speed matters to you at all I would go with cable.

BTW - You probably could used to play Pogo on 56k but not anymore. Most of their games have been revamped or outright designed with broadband in mind.

DSL will be sufficient for what you're doing

it has a slower potential than cable but mostly on the upstream and even downloading you're limited to how fast the server gives it to you.

if you're downloading dvds or full game images off p2p then you're gonna want to hold onto the cable but you can play pogo on 56k if you wanted to

you probable received't word a huge difference except you had more advantageous than 3 or 4 computers operating on an same community. that's really demanding to inform this variety of small huge difference in speed with undemanding internet viewing and downloading. also, you would word somewhat extra effective gaming speed via higher upload speed.

The FCC sets limits on your bandwidth. I suggest DSL. I find it's faster than cable. I now have DSL and used to have Comcast cable.

If massive upload speed isn't of concern, you should be fine with a DSL line. I'm running DSL, and it's blazing. My DL bandwidth is around 2.5M, and UL is around 384k. Work's great for me. Honestly don't think you'll notice a difference. My neighbor has cable, and I think he's wasting his money for what he does.
