My first car was a tricked out Ford Mustang I've been working on over the years that is now in its dying days. I'm looking for a car in the 15-25k range to replace it. I want it to weigh less than the Mustang, but still have at least a 6 cylindar engine and a manual transmission. Will probably buy it in the next 2 years...and I don't mind buying used, as long as it's only used by a couple of years.

Any suggestions?

while its not a 6 cyl, the subaru WRX STis and mitsubishi EVOs are by going to most likely be the fastest, relatively new, most reliable thing in that price range.

or if you just want to go fast in a straight line, go buy a LS1 based F body (camaro z28, SS, Firebird forumla and trans am, 99+ i think) and mod it to hell. For 25 grand you could be pushing god knows how much power. the car should only run you around 10 grand, and 15 grand worth of mods on an LS1 would put you in a car far too unsafe to drive on the street regularly.

edit, if youre willing to deal with expensive (but relatively infrequent) repairs, you could go grab up an older 911, and really have some fun. for 25 you could have a 930 (older 911) turbo in great condition, which is just an absolute beast of a car. super fun to drive.

edit 2: it matters how lightweight you want. if you want super light, then you could go grab up a track special like a caterham or lotus super 7. both are 4 cyls, but way more fun and faster than most much more powerful cars.

You've probably heard the news about Ford's problems on the news, so I wouldn't even think of purchasing a new one. And a used Ford V-6? Probe, Taurus, SHO, these V-6 models will soon be known as "Junkyard Jems". If you have that much money to play with, you should scoop up a used 350Z for around $15-20K and cop a turbokit, suspension, exhaust and a body kit. If you know where to look for these parts for cheap, there's no doubt you'd be a happy camper. Good luck.

No, no longer in my experience. My 1989 Camry 4 cylinder grew to become into nonetheless going sturdy after 260,000 miles as quickly as I offered it. A six has 2 greater effective cylinders to shield. except you desire the means, why situation, distinctly with the severe value of gasoline?
