A teacher's pet...get it?
Seriously though, I don't know about pigs, but Alaskan Malamutes are very very intelligent, as far as typical domestic animals go.Too smart for their own good sometimes. I rate parrots high up on the list, but they are too mean for me to consider one as a pet.
Realize very smart=very disobedient and they have their own will and their own mind, know something is wrong, and only do this 'bad behavior' if they think they can get away with it. Also my Malamutes learn very very quickly. I can teach them a new trick in an hour...once they get it down, they refuse to do it anymore...unless it is on their terms.
Sorry I was assuming you wanted to know what the smartest pet was in expectation of finding one that is the fastest learner.

I would have to say a dog. They listen, are easy to train, very loving, if you ask them do they want to go for a ride in the car, they understand and know what you are talking about. If you ask them do you want to eat they bark and respond. That is just my opinion and I am not biased when I write this because I have two cats but I truly believe that a dog is the smartest pet you could ask for.

If you are referring to intelligence, then the current animals we keep as pets aren't really that far up on the list, with the exception of the parrot and for a few special pet owners, the pig..
They aren't only intelligent pets but one of the most intelligent animals around..

I don't really know about the intelligence of all animals, but I do know that some smart dogs make excellent pets. A good mutt can be loyal, eager to please and responsive to training, adaptable to your schedule, a good problem solver and mind reader, and know the difference between something acceptable to you and something unacceptable to you. They can be pretty smart!
