In general a density of a substance can be computed by dividing its mass by volume it displaces in water. This question regarding cadmium nitrate is therefore a bit tricky.

Cadmium Nitrate Cd(NO3) has a tendency to observe water from the air and becoming
Cd(NO3)2•4H2O. If we heat the compound to remove the water and then perform the measurement in a dry environment then we can compute the density of Cd(NO3). however we just looking for the density of Cd(NO3)2•4H2O then just measure it just the way it is.

Density = (mass of the compound) / (volume of water after compound added - volume of water before compound added)
