I was just wondering since I am going to buy a thirty year old car because I can not afford anything else right now (I am seven-teen)! The car is gray, but the pain isn't that bad. Are people going to make fun of me? I do not want to feel embarrass since my mother is not as rich as other people and is unable to provide for me a nice car.

Why are you worried about what people will think? You are wisely buying what you can afford. Thumbs up to you!!
So many think they have to have the best and make a real mess of their credit and stay in a constant state of fear that they won't be able to pay their bills. Most can't pay their bills.

I never felt I had to keep up with "the Jones", so they say, and I am now totally retired at 58 and living very comfortably. My friends that had to have everything are still clocking in and are struggling to scrape up enough to retire at 65.

You are on the right track. Stay on it.

Some young people sometimes do start of in an old car. I still drive my first car, which is 14 years old now, I've had it for 5 years. It does look a bit tatty now, but still drives well. I don't think it's embarrassing I think theirs quite a lot of people that drive old cars. Sometimes it's a good idea to get an old car at first when your not such an experienced driver, because if you damage it, it's not to bad and then you can get a nicer car when your a more experienced driver.

If you can afford the gas then screw what everyone else has to say. Personally, I wish I could afford an older car. They are easier to fix, more comfortable to drive, cheaper to fix, safer then any new car on the road, have more room in them, and they certainly have more style! I've always had an older 70's vehicle, until here in Canada they started taking them off the road. Worst mistake ever in the manufacturing of these newer "pop can" cars. There are so many people dying in accidents because these newer cars can't take a collision.
You are making a smart choice!!

Honey, that old car will still be running when your friend's cars are in the junkyard. Trust me on this. I used to drive older cars and they are more dependable.
