I notice some of the answers get thumbs down when they're actually very good answers. I'm not just talking about mine, I'm saying all over the place. Are people out there giving thumbs down for no reason, just to be annoying? There are sometimes I can't think of any other reason. I know it doesn't really matter, but I wonder.

Actually, I've noticed that too, with my answers. I mean, they have been legitimate, well thought out answers. But I think when some people have a different opinion, they just like to give thumbs down. Maybe they get annoyed when someone doesn't feel the same way they do about a subject, so that's how they express their disagreement. Which, isn't really the point of the whole thing, but people do it anyway. And I'm sure there are those who do it just to be a jerk.

I give thumbs down if it is something that isn't bad enough to report, but something that is mean spirited.
I know that if you report something, Y!Answers just deletes it without reading it, so I don't really report people anymore, I just give them the thumbs down so I don't have to read it.
I've noticed that if it something controversial, there will be a lot of thumbs up or thumbs down, or both. From that, what one can assume is that some people give a thumbs down to responses that differ from their own opinions.

Could be a person just disagrees with the answer so they give it thumbs down. Could also be the person doesn't like the answerer.

I've noticed the same thing. It's as though people assume if the answer doesn't agree with their own personal opinion, then it must be wrong. It may not matter that they do this, but it still drives me insane. :)
