I am 32 years old this year. I finished High school in 1993 and did not take Maths or Science as subjects. I had lots of issues in school and did not apply myself very well. Only later on I realised my dream was to study medicine so I became a Paramedic. I have reached the top of my game as a Paramedic but now want to study medicine. Universities only want to know how you did in school and my marks sucked. What should I do to get into med school? Should I go back and re-do my schooling? With Maths and Science and Biology? Will this help at all? I am living in Australia by the way. I know I can do it but where do I begin!!

It's a little different to that in Australia, because Medicine is not a postgraduate subjects. Have you talked to a career's advisor, or course advisor? Considering you are already trained as a paramedic, it is quite possibly you can get into a course as a mature age student. You need to talk to a course advisor or admissions officer at the university and find out what the prerequisites would be at this stage. I think they ask you to sit and exam, and an interview as well.

i don't know what things are like in australia but in the US, you might have trouble getting into a 4 year school right off. So I would go to a community college for 2 years take the basic undergrad requirements (like english, history ect), then transfer to a 4 year school to continue your premed requirements and earn a bachelors. You will need to do undergraduate work before applying th med schoo. So after you do your undergrad, you can apply to med school
