You Question is little confusing, did u mean how wireless network works or wirless internet works.
If you are talking about wireless network most laptops there days come with Inbuilt wireless network cards. You need a wireless access point to access network resources, or other devices that are connected to that access point.
Or you can use a wireless acess point *** router and connect your ISP Internet cable to that router and all the systems that are connected to that wirless router can share the internet connection.
But the range would be limited to the range of the Wireless device which is generally a few tens meters.
If you want wireless internet you can go with Reliance or Airtel datacards. These cards are PCMCI devices which would fit in the PCMCI Slot of your laptop and connect to the respective service providers to provide you with internet access.

modern laptops have a slot in the side for you to put a wireless card on or a wireless card built in. This connects to a WAP(wireless acess point) of a router someone put on their internet connection. this router broadcasts the internet wirelessly.. It usually goes off a lan connection.

Most laptops have a wireless card that sends and receives signals. The card is hardware that plugs into the laptop giving it wireless capability.
