Inorganic Compounds In Food

inorganic is basically anything not made by a living organism, so no hydrocarbon molecules in it. boring ordinary salt, sodium chloride, is the obvious example. vitamin and mineral tablets will contain elements like copper and magnesium which are considered inorganic compounds. if you have any silicon cooking utensils, they're inorganic. if you have any sand in your household for whatever reason, it will be mostly inorganic silica, oxidised silicon (so a compound of silicon and oxygen). glass is a very household item which is made from heated sand so that should count. plastic does not count as it is a hydrocarbon made from oil, which is liquefied remains of ancient organisms bleach contains hypochlorite ions OCl- which are the powerful reductant used to react with stains and clean surfaces. if vomit counts as a household item, depends how often you have your parties, there is the inorganic hydrochloric acid in the stomach. batteries contain inorganic zinc compounds. car batteries use hydrochloric acid and lead sulphate, which react to provide a high(ish) voltage spark necessary to ignite the fuels in the engine. the reaction between them is reversible, the battery is recharged using power supplied by the fuel once the engine is running. gemstones are inorganic. sometimes compounds within them will give them unique colour, sometimes resulting in two-tone stones. CFCs are inorganic as far as i know. alloys like steel are compounds of metals.
