Because of it's combination of properties, there are more known compounds of carbon than of any other element, and even now only a small fraction of the possible compounds has been investigated. Whether or not it's contained in 80%, no one really knows. That's just a guess. But it's definitely in more compounds than any other element.

Well on our plant, the primary elements that exist in most of the compounds are C,H & O (Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen). Our world is made of C_H_O. Overall, Carbon is the most ubiquetous element in our world (Earth).

Off the top of my head I would say Hydrogen. It is the most abundant element in the universe.

THE EARTH IS 80% OXYGEN.

The mass of solid earth is a lot bigger than plants and animals combined. Much of the composition of rocks and water is known.

It is oxygen.
