Is it a normal behavior for a teething baby to push the bottle away? I thought that the counter-pressure felt good on their sore gums. She has been doing this for days now...barely drinking half of her bottle at each feeding. I've tried refrigerating the bottle, also warming it. She just doesn't want it...she's got to be hungry. Her teeth are starting to erupt through the gums now, should her pain last much longer? Will she be more eager to eat once her teeth are through, or are they still going to cause pain for a while? I've tried it all (oragel, tylenol, refrigerated teething toys, cold washcloths, rubbing her gums) and nothing seems to help. She is very big for her age, so her decreased appetite worries me. As a first time mom, any advise would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry about it. It is perfectly normal for teething babies to lose their appetite for a while. If your teeth hurt that badly, you probably wouldn't want to eat either! The worst pain from teething typically only lasts a couple days, and as soon as they poke through the gums your baby should go back to normal. And if tylenol didn't work for your baby, try motrin.
Your baby is still eating half a bottle at each feeding, so that's fine. If she stops eating all together, or you are still worried, you should call your pediatrician just in case.

Yes, it is normal and she may not be hungry. They go through spells like that. My son did, and he was very healthy for his age (at 5-months, he was 23 pounds and extraordinarily tall). I had my worries when he wouldn't eat like he normally did, called my pediatrician, and was told that my son would eat when he was hungry and not to force it. In a day or so, he went back to eating normally. Plus, when they're teething, they tend to lose their appetite. Also, perhaps she's having a hard time getting milk out of her bottle. Try changing to a different type of nipple (one that has an easier flow). That may help. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much, but if you're still not reassured, call her pediatrician.

Lots of time when teething, there may be some excessive mucous production, making taking formula difficult resulting in pushing away the bottle to get a breath Try giving H20, or half seven up and half H20 or half juice, half H20 If she is large for her age, don't worry unless she starts REALLY loosing weight or becomes listless and febrile (running a temp) Once the teeth are in, the pain should stop, but then there will come the next set. Some kids get their teeth, and you never know it til you get bitten. Others fight for every one they get. Relax, as long as she is taking something, she will make it thru.

yes, it will cause appetite problems, I have a baby that is 5 months on the 8 feb and he just drinks 1/2 bottle, i got told to try feeding him smaller feeds and more regular, but of course it's up to you, i know it pisses you off when babies do this..But teething is very painful for them and as u do your self when your sick or in pain you don't feel like eating same as babies and don't stress about your baby feeding fussy... my mother in law alway said that the breast don't have measurment on them like a bottle so they will drink as much as they want and yes i put my baby's bottle in the fridge all the time as long as it is not in there for 24 hours or more..
Good luck

Alot of babies don't eat very much while teething, sometimes teething can make them not feel to well. you could try teething tablets, or try giving her bottle in a sippy cup. but I wouldn't worry about it usualy the pain and symptoms go away once the teeth cut through.

the pressure dose not always help. she will eat when she getts hungry enough. also try feeding her cereal and baby food she is not to young. and she could also be growing out of the bottle early. so try it in a cup maybe even a hard spout cup.to make sure she get the vitamins she needs for the milk make the cereal with it
