I think the fact that her "real" name is so elegant and proper -I like Beatrix :) , Trixie is fine. I think of a super cute Gidget type pixie when I think of the name Trixie.

There's an old series of books about a girl named Trixie, and it is a nice respectable series. I enjoyed the books I read in the series when I was younger, and as I recall there is a girl named "Honey" (maybe it's a nick name?) in the series as well.
That being said, we have a "gentleman's club" where I'm from called "Trixie's" where the girls go totally nude...
However, I've always liked the name Trixie. I think a person makes a name their own, and I've never judged someone by their name alone. Sometimes a person's name will surprise me at first, but I would prefer a unique name than to be saddled with a very common name.
Also (I know, I'm rambling) you said you like the name Beatrix, so if your child didn't like being called Trixie, she could adopt Bea as a nn when she got older, or just go by her given name. After all, Trixie would just be a nick name.

There is a really popular book out right now called "Freakonomics" by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. It has some GREAT statistics about naming trends and child rearing habits of the successful (and not so successful.) It is a tremendously interesting read - and not too boring or tough to get through either.... Anyway, I specifically remember Trixie being on the "no-no" name list.
Here's the author's website address on this book if you want to check it out! www.freakonomics.com/blog/ You can probably pick up the book at the library as well.... Have fun, and enjoy picking out a name!

Beatrix is an utterly stunning classic. It's beautiful, whimsical, and purely charming. I myself am not terribly fond of Trixie. I prefer Bea. But if you are dead on for using it, I'd rather it be a nickname for Beatrix than on it's own. Nevaeh is a stripper name. I would stick with saying just plain Beatrix, which is clearly not stripperish in any way, shape, or form.

It does sound like a prostitute. I also know two people that have dogs named Trixie. What is wrong with Beatrix?

No not at all...I think of the little girl from Problem Child lol. Sorry you probably didn't want to hear that. But seriously, I like that name. There aren't too many girls out there with the name Trixie so it makes it kind of unique. If you and your husband love it then who cares what other people think.

Oh, yes, I completely agree! Just say no to Trixie!
I do know someone named Dixie and she is a very sweet girl--somehow that sounds less "stripper."

Trixie does sound offly stripperiffic.
I'd suggest Beatrix. You can have the best of both worlds this way. Beatrix has that classic ring to it, while you could called her 'trixie' by nickname.

It doesn't sound like the name a traditional girl would be taken seriously with-it may sound cute now but it doesn't sound like the name of a businesswoman. Friends recently named their daughter Ginger-either a stripper or a movie star on a deserted isle!

You seem confused at why people say that. I think it's a prostitute (as in turning tricks) or a dog ( as in performing tricks) A cute sassy nickname for Beatrix would be Bitsy.
