There is no answer for this except as long as you feel comfortable. Its best not to let a baby that young cry too long, but in special cases... well you do need your sanity!! Put her somehwere safe like in her crib and have a coffee - she won't die from crying for a while. You need to look after yourself, too - for her sake.
Talk to your doc - there may be some meds that can calm her down. But she will grow out of it, eventually.

Your baby is too young to "cry it out" if you go to Dr. Sears' web site it will explain why. I doubt it has anything to do with the formula all though have you not considered breastfeeding? It isn't very common for a baby to get colic this young. Does she cry at night because she is in a seperate room? You may want to consider co-sleeping... They have little cots with re-enforced sides that will fit between you and your partner and you can;t roll over on the baby. I'd also recomend getting a sling.... any kind that is comfortable will do. Babies at this age just need closeness and security, some more then others and some just go through phases.
Have you tried chairs/swings with gentle motions? Maybe even a Bouncee chair with vibrations? I don;t suggest keeping her in the chairs or swings too much in the day as babies can develop neck problems from underdevelopment.
I would try the sling and co-sleeping and doing other natural mothering techniques before I would consider switching formulas or medicating your baby..

At one month, some babies just need more security than others. It may not be anything wrong except she needs to be close to you. Ask your doctor if it will be ok to give her some simethicone (gas drops - available at any drug store or discount store). Mine didn't get quite as bad as you described, but he would get irritable and fussy and our doctor had told us about the drops. They actually made him sleepy. Within a few minutes of giving him those he would settle down and go to sleep. If she is having gas pains it will hurt like crazy. If you can, try to enlist the help of your two year old to entertain the baby. Have him make funny faces and softly coo while the baby is laying in a crib or on a quilt on the floor. If he can be careful, you might let them lie together for a few minutes. This will give your son an "important big brother job" to do, and it might make the baby still feel secure that someone is close. Another thing to try is a vibrating bouncer seat. I used one of these to entertain my son so I could get a shower or do household chores. It is helpful if it has an activity bar with some toys on it.

hmmm this can finally end up as a dissertation :-) LOL properly the position do I start up...enable's see a million. Be prepared to sleep little or no after the newborn is born, children are a handful, even newborns. that's exertions 2. don't be shy to ask for help out of your friends and kinfolk 3. keep sufficient diapers, wipes and burp fabric round 4. do not get right into a debate between breast milk vs. formula with all of us. that's no longer properly worth it. pick whichever works correct for you. 5. eat a lot of nutritious food and relax each and every time the newborn sleeps. don't be ashamed to apply your television or music gadget because the nanny at the same time as you do your artwork. 6. in case you may, attempt no longer to bypass decrease back to artwork for the first 2-3 months. Your infant needs you and have self belief me you want the "relax" properly if no longer relax a minimum of you want no longer post with workplace appropriate rigidity. 7. in case you experience your there is a few thing incorrect consisting of your infant's well being continuously call the well being service or dial 911, you may't in any respect be too careful 8. bypass out for walks consisting of your infant as often as you may, it's going to make both one among you more than chuffed. i'm no longer going to lecture you about being affected man or woman with children, you'll learn all that once your infant arrives. have relaxing and experience a at the same time as with the newborn. strong success!

You can let your baby cry for 15 or 20 minutes no problem, as lond as you check in on them and make sure it's not because of something like a dirty diaper or being hungry (basic needs) other than that if you need to do the dishes or feed your 2 year old lunch there is nothing wrong with letting the baby cry for a little bit.
And espically if you begin to feel frustrated the best thing to do is put the baby down in her crib and go in the other room to relax for a few minutes. The baby can tell if you are tense and that can make her even more upset.

There is no harm in letting a baby cry for some time, if they are doing it becuase of wanting attention. Slings are very handy if you don't want to put her down and leave her, you can still have your hands free for you little boy. Also I see someone wrote to put your baby on the side, I've been told my every medical person I've come in contact with since being pregnant, that it is very risky and SIDS kids does not reccommend you do it for the safety for your baby. A midwife even told me, if you just need a break and your baby wont stop crying, turn on the vacuum cleaner and sit down relax and compose yourself, for your own sanity.

Sara,
I remember those days, and it is tough. A baby that young is having problems and letting them cry it out isn't going to help them. Might want to look into baby whisperer stuff or something that teaches you how your baby is communicating. Also, you can email me further for this info, but a lot of our common household cleaners are showing to have issues with our children..ie, asthma, respiratory and dermatitis issues...I know I have an allergy boy! Did you know that Gerber baby wash, lavender scent has formaldehyde in it?? So if you'd like some more info email me...alcoserfamily@yahoo

colic is not only a nightime thing. my daughter cried continously. she once went 15 hours straight with nothing calming her down. gripe water was my lifesaver, you can find it at some pharmacies and health stores. yes she can cry as long as she's in a safe place but i wouldn't let a child of this age cry for no more than 10 mins. have you tried a sling or front carrier, this way you are holding her and still have both hands free for your 2 year old?

You should not let your newborn cry. She is in pain! Have you tried putting her down on her side sandwiched between two stuffed toys or small pillows? I had to do this with my son, because his colic was so bad that he spent days and nights just crying. The Dr. said "its normal". It is not normal at all.
My mom because I was holding him 24/7 created a "bed" on a rocking recliner, a place where I could see him and get rest too. The motion of the chair soothed his tummy enough for him to start sleeping a couple of hours a day.
Maybe you should get a swing that leans back a little and place your daughter in it, keep it moving. At least for a little while during the day so you can rest too.
Good Luck!
