well i used to be a salesman and I would first try to make a good impression by dressing well but not to flashy as it will scare off the live wires.
then you study up on your product to become an expert.
then you buy the client dinner and some drinks to loosen then up a bit.
don't be too pushy as no one likes to be sold to...give them reasons to buy your product...create a need.

What do you mean by "pitch a person"? If it means ditching a relationship, then you could just tell them clearly and walk away without doing much damage....... :-)
