You would do well to do some research. Realize that even seasoned writers often have trouble selling their work. Even if you have a great novel, if the subject matter isn't what is popular than publishers aren't going to want to invest in it. Research what publishers are publishing right now. When you find a publisher that is publishing things similar to your work then contact them. Try to avoid sending manuscripts unsolicited, they just get dumped into a so-called slush pile that the editors go over when they have spare time. From there it takes months for a company to get back to you. Definately not worth the wait. Learn how to sell yourself or get an agent if you really have a good thing. But getting started as an author is tough, even if you are a good writer. Best of luck.

Devin:
I have written and self published two books, a very hard row to hoe. Then I discovered this! I reccommend, If you browse to New York Literary Agency and follow their instructions. They ask you to send them a querry letter with a promise to answer in two days. (They Do) If interested in your work they ask you to send your manuscript by email and show you how to do this. They promise to get back to you in two weeks and again they do. They charge nothing unless they find you a publisher and then only 15% of books sold. You can't beat this. I know of no others that do this in this time frame. Trust me, if you go the snail mail route with others it takes up to three years to get an answer if you get one at all. Please, please let me know how you make out if you take this route. Your age does not matter.

Your age is irrelevant if your parents support your efforts (you won't be able to sign a contract for yourself, if you get offered one).

Go to your local library and talk to the librarian. There are books available about how to get books published. It depends on the type of book you have written. These books will tell you how to contact publishers, agents, and what type of materials to submit and in what form.

Good luck.
