Do teenagers in India have girl/boy friends?

I am a brown teen in usa, and being lectured on the innocence and 'purity' of teenagers living in India. I am wondering, with the new wave of westernization..do teenagers (teenagers as in 11th grade onwards) have relationships? go on dates? how far do they go? expected to loose their virginity?

right..so most of the responses are saying that teenagers either have 'true love' or they dont have a relationship period...i doubt that, there obviously must be a middle ground...white bf's ok with indian relatives?

Haha, you do realise that your ancestors migrated from India in the 60's-90's? They are backwards, and sadly, so are you. Indians in India have moved on - they've become more modernised than even you.

Most answers here seem to be from people outside India commenting on Indian teenagers. Here is one answer from India.
Your parents left India probably a decade or two back. In their minds, India is till the way as they remember it when they were teenagers. That was probaly a loong time ago. Teenagers did probably fall in love and had the usual crushes, as all teenagers do. But yes dating and mixing with the opposite sex was much lesser that the west. Also when you leave your country you kinda try and exaggerate the positives:)

India has change dramatically in the last 6-7 years. With the standard or living going up in most cities and towns, invasion of media we are much more exposed to the western culture and therefore influenced by it. 11th grade teenagers do have BF/GF not only in big cities but in smaller towns too(probably not in rural villages). virginity is not sucha big deal in cities...though in smaller towns it still is. But that doesn't mean kids don't have pre marital sex. So we may not be as open about sex and dating as the US, but definitley not as "pure" or innocent as your parents seem to think. India is a v v differnt country now. maybe you should visit and make up your own views rather than hearsay:)

When I went to india last summer for 4 1/2 months. My friend had a gf whom he said he was active with & he is only 19 (only 3 days older than me, odd no?). Anyway yes they do have bf/gf relationships & yes some( or most) do have sex. Its INDIA the population is over 1 billion!!! of course people do lol.

Just cause you are indian doesnt mean you dont. Remember its the land of the kama sutra.

All I know are the Indian teens (with traditional parents) in the USA have "practice" boyfriends to learn on before their arranged marriages begin in a couple of years.

I am an Indian and 25 years old ... Till now I had never a girl friend ..... may be 2 to 3 % of my friends had .... its very rare in India ....

It depends on the town in which you live. Smaller towns usually frown on couples-dating and young people only go out together, to have fun, in groups. It is similar to traditional Latino society. In larger cities, you will find more Westernization.

yes teenagers in India today have gf/ bf. They seldom go on dates. They do not loose virginity. They remain best friends, fall in love, sometimes the love fructifies to marriage, sometimes it is sacrificed on the altar of parental wishes.

India is probably one of those places where a girl is expected to marry out to someone early in their life, so I would say that dating and what not is prominent.

Of course..which era are u living in? Urban Indian teens have done it and seen it all here. They have girlfriends / boyfriends, abuse drugs, have sex and just about do everything that their counterparts are doing elsewhere

In major cities like Mumbai,Delhi,hyderabad,nagpur etc some of them do have boy/girl friends but very few like in America.
