0.001 kg = 1 g. or it can be expressed by 1 x 10 ^-3 kg (this is what you asked for)
1000g = 1 kg
1000 mg = 1 g
1 000 000 mg = 1 kg

Perhaps you mean how many g are in a kg.

One g = 1 gram

One kg = 1,000 grams

Like everyone said - 1/1000 = .001

K = Kilo = thousand

so, one thousand grams in a kilogram, so each gram is one thousandth of a kilogram.
